You shouldn't. Doing so puts you at a greater risk of a rare infection that if not treated on time, can be deadly. This is called Toxic Shock Syndrome. To reduce this risk, use a tampon only during your period, use only the absorbancy you need (not any larger), never leave it in for more than 8 hours, and wash your hands before inserting a tampon. Besides, not having your period makes putting in a tampon pretty tough because of lack of lubrication.
